antifreeze leak on my moms 98 *pics*

Postby Hunter0103 » Sat Nov 27, 2010 3:15 pm

my moms car is leaking antifreeze... its a 98 pathfinder, took the skidplate off, and its dripping antifreeze from this, idk what it is or exactly where its coming from... this is the highest altitude of the leak I could find.

I ran the engine for a few minutes to see if I could see where it is coming from, and it just kept dripping down from that little nut below the belts, this is the bottom most part of the engine.

the green lines is where i could see drops of anti freeze dripping....

Water pump seal

That's my guess. It is behind the fan pulley and timing chain cover and it looks like it is coming out of the bottom of the covers.

It's probably the water pump; the weep hole sits just above the lower timing belt cover. Looks like some oil on the passenger side of the cover, which could be a sign of a leaking cam seal. Since you have to remove the timing belt cover to do the water pump, it's a good time to replace the timing and drive belts and front engine seals and tensioner pulley. Some also like to replace the thermostat at the same time. Best to do it all at once and be done with it!
