Underbody and frame corrosion treatments

Postby Gray » Fri Jul 25, 2008 7:39 pm

The other day I was looking at a used Armada underframe to measure the rear springs at a dealership lot and as this area uses salt in winter saw that the whole frame and undercarriage of that truck was a huge rusting mess.

Just wondering what products any have found to apply to keep the underside rust to a minimum.

A lot of Aussie Pathy owners use Lanotec http://www.lanotec.com.au/?link=3 as underbody protection.

I've only started using it recently so can't report on its effectiveness yet.

Thanks Ian, I recently inquired at the local pharmacy as to availability of 100% pure anhydrous lanolin. $25 per liter for USP pure here which when mixed at about 1/5 with a paint thinner/solvent should cover a truck frame and interior body and door panels nicely. Prior to installing a wax/oil barrier coating though I'm looking to spray on some tannic acid in a latex base: 'Rust Converter' type product to convert red iron oxide type rust to the more stable magnetite which stabilizes any red rusting.
