Polishing the stock rims

Postby Gray » Wed Sep 10, 2008 10:29 am

Just wondered if any have had the stock rims polished and how those came out. Is it best to clear coat them after and who's making the good clearcoat product for rims. Thanks.

I used turtle wax on them. Truthfully speaking, it was a waste of time.

I believe mr brick may have been referring to metal polishing (i.e. sanding with progressively finer grits, and polishing the metal with a rubbing / polishing compound), not just waxing with a paste wax.

as a general rule, if you take the time to polish metal, you pretty much have it protected (i.e. clearcoated), unless you want to re-polish when the surface gets corroded or oxidized.

and no, i have not polished my wheels. nor do i have a recommendation for a clearcoat.

Thanks Mike, yep I was thinking of stripping the paint off of the stock aluminum rims and maybe clear coating them.

POR looks to have a great catalyst rim type clearcoat.;

Were you trying to quote this: http://www.por15.com/prodinfo.asp?grp=GPC&dept=6

If so I wouldn't hesitate to use anything from POR based on my current experience with their other products.
