Anyone do a brake job yet?

What pads/rotors did you go with?

I'm at 47K miles and figure it is about time. My back roads driving and boat towing have really done a number on my rotors. The pads still have some life left, but will be changed too while I'm in there.

My pathfinder has 37,000 & the pads are still at 50% even after towing my boat all summer.
When I do change out the pads I'm going to use Brembo or Stillen rotors & Akebono ceramic pads.
We have done that conversion on other suv's & it seems to work grear - better stopping power & minimal brake dust.

I'm at 42k and the pads look good. I took the rotors off and had them turned at a friends shop. I was getting a slight vibration in the steering wheel.

He said they were a little off and after I put them back on it's perfect no more vibration.

You might just want to get them turned they have a lot of meat on them and if they aren't warped bad they will be like new again. Find a shop though, the Stealer wanted 120.00 to turn them. I paid 8$ a rotor, any place with a brake lathe will usually do it for a lot less.

Oh.... I guess to answer your question though, I will use Nissan pads and rotors when it comes time to replace. I tow with my PF as well and they are holding up great.

I just put two rotors on my girlfriends G35 and used Nissan they are solid performers IMO.

I am at 39000 and have also been curious on what people are doing..... I called the local dealer and they want 250.00 per axle for replacing the pads and turning the rotors. :x

I haven't done a brake job yet but it's coming up. Next trip out of the bush I plan on buying a front and rear set of rotors and getting them cryo-treated ready for the change out;

I've had cryo treated rotors on my Tahoe. It's a waste of money IMHO. Just get some slotted rotors (not drilled) and some good pads. I prefer either ceramic or Performance Friction (if they make them for the PF)

I will be doing full front swap, rear pads, and new fluid this weekend.

Fronts will be EBC rotors with EBC 6000 greens. Rear pads are Akebono.

i will update once done.

I have EBC Green pads on my Audi S4. They are a rather "rough" compound. Although they stop just fine, they're fairly hard on the rotors and leave deposits. They also make a grinding noise as the deposits build up over time.

Not sure I'd buy them again. YMMV

Do we have a DIY write-up for the brakes on here? Maybe you can be the first so noobs like myself can follow the directions. :D

I'm not sure if there is a DIY. Shouldn't be any different then any other brake job. I'll keep my camera near!

Are you going with the slotted or slotted & dimpled rotors? And any reason you're not going with the 7k series instead of the regular 6's or even the yellow stuff for Truck/SUV's? Definitely post your results.

I'm currently running the dimpled/slotted with 2000 series Greenstuff on my Sentra and the braking was markedly better than with a stock-style replacement. I don't like the whirring sound the rotors make but for the performance it's worth it. I'm also looking at the yellow's for when I need to replace my pathy's setup.

I am going with the normal EBC rotors. No need for slotted on the truck. i went with regualr 6's becasue I wanted to upgreade, but not go overbaord. my wife and I brake in the truck like we brake in our cars. Both of which have upgreaded brakes. We need something to handle our abuse a little better.

Aren't the 7's the same essentially except lower dust? Keep us posted.
