rough idle in park. spark plugs or fan clutch?

Postby BCpathy » Tue Nov 03, 2015 1:23 pm

Hi guys.

I noticed that my pathy started idling rough recently. It idles up and down. But rpms stay constant. First i thought about the spark plugs. The truck has got 102 k miles down and I was going to replace them anyway.

But I also noticed that the fan starts upwhen turning on the engine. It then continually stays on.
therefore I'm wondering if it might be the fan clutch. Or a bad tensioner.

Did anyone ever experience this? Any advises?

It idles up and down but the RPM stay constant? Does that mean it's surging? If it is, surging usually occurs due to a lean condition. Check for splits in the rubber intake ducts and for possible vacuum leaks. 102K miles is close enough to replace the spark plugs; stick with the original type NGK. A bad tensioner will usually result in belt squeak and a bad fan clutch will result either in a loud "roar" all of the time or overheating at low speeds and idling.
