Idle ?

Postby Kestral » Wed Nov 04, 2015 8:47 am

The idle on my 2012 R51 V6 has always been sort of erratic since I bought the truck used at around 7,000 miles. Several on this forum as well as the Nissan Frontier forums running the same V6 have similar experience with the idle. My question is can the idle of the 4.0 V6 be raised say 100 rpm to make the truck idle better or is the idle computer controlled and non adjustable?

The idle and ignition timing can be "tweeked" slightly is you have a Consult III or capable aftermarket scantool. Some of the aftermarket tuners like Bully Dog may have that capability, as well, which might be something you might consider looking into.

Yes, Bully Dog will work great. I used a friend's, had to uninstall, install on mine, then uninstall mine, then re-install on his....but, I raised my idle by 125 RPM, and it completely leveled out the idle RPM.

Biggest reason I did it, when the a/c was on, the RPM would drop to below 500, causing the entire truck to violently shake...had to fix it.

Dealer will do it, mine will, but they would've charged $130
