Hello all.

Ok heres the details.
working on my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder 4.0l
ObdII code shows p0335 fault.

Symptoms, Typical while driving engine cut off. Pulled over tried restarting. Engine fired up but very delayed start. once started check engine light and VDC off light and slip light illuminated.
Got it home and hooked up to Code reader? diagnostics. gave a single code of P0335. R & R the Crank Case Positioning sensor. Checked the connections and cleared the codes.
went to fire it up and still the same delay start. turns over fine but take a while to fire up.

I went back to the Sensor and disconnected the harness from the sensor . Went back and turned it over and it was no change same delay start. rather connected or not.

the battery is good and fresh just changed the plugs as well so spark is stellar.

Question is :

1. should it have even fired up disconnected?
2. This P0335 code is a common issue. but if the sensor is change and good whats next.
3 what am I missing and what should I do next?

Negative, that is a post for the CAM sensor, mine is for the Crank shaft ppsition sensor.

From my experience you're lucky it threw a code

I had the issue, the sensor seemed OK, but haven't had the issue since I replaced it. I went Nissan OEM as I figured the first one went ~155k so it shouldn't give me additional trouble in the future.

If it was an aftermarket sensor, I wouldn't trust it. I've run into a number of faulty cam and crank position sensors right out of the box over the years. Stick with genuine Nissan or genuine Hitachi sensors.

Yes Understand about the OEM sensor vs aftermarket. However the Question I Have is this:

If the Crankcase positioning sensor is disconnected should the engine still fire?
Granted may still be a delayed start but is it still suppose to fire.

It can start with a faulty crank position sensor or disconnected sensor. As you mentioned, you'll probably experience a delayed start.
