ragpaoa, any word on the suspension upgrade?

Postby G35TR » Sat Feb 07, 2009 3:23 pm

Wondering how it went with the Radflo/PRG setup?

Also, I sent you a PM, but it's still sitting in my "Outbox". Anyone know if this is normal, or if not and it hasn't actually sent, how do I send it?

Well, now that you have mentioned it, I have been talking to Greg at PRG this past week regarding getting the Radflo 2.5 rear shocks for the Pathfinder. I have contacted ICON originally, although rather helpful, still haven't sent their shocks out to production. So PRG has been helping me setup a long travel rear shock. Greg will be be contacting me next week for fitting. We are anticipating about 10" travel with external reservoirs.
Mind you, you should have upgraded springs, like the OME or King Springs to get the full effect since the shocks are specifically valved for these springs for full articulation offroad while not compromisg on road ride.
For the front, I will be getting the Radflo 2.5 long travel coilovers, with the PRG UCA.
I'll keep everyone posted!

Ok guys, just spoke with Greg at PRG.

First, the rear shocks won't be ready until first of next week. Radflo was back-logged on a few projects, but have indicated to Greg that the prototype shock should be done by next week. From what Greg is telling me, you won't be disappointed. We are getting the same 2.5 tubes and can be tuned to our specific applications i.e. weight of vehicle, off roading, towing, etc. We will be getting close to about 10" of travel, compared to the measly 6" we have stock. Make sure you get at least better springs like OME or King Springs to get the best performance. The fronts are the same as the XTerra and Frontier, so we will be getting around 7.5-8" travel with the extended Radflo 2.5.
As a reference, the new FJ cruiser is getting 7"/9" Front/Back (stock). So, this setup is not too shabby.

Also, spoke to Greg about some new swaybar links to compliment the new suspension travel. The good news is that he can fabricate new extended links with heim joints top and bottom. This allows the full articulation travel WITHOUT disconnecting the swaybars! On-road stability with off-road articulation ... too kewl.

Looky here on what limitations the swaybars have:

Here's a link from Expo with some info on the various 2.5 coilovers hitting the market. It also mentions in one of the posts that there is a group deal
for ICON 2.5's, with TC UCA's for just over $1500.

Also, more info from the Xterra site.

Not a bad deal either. Curious on some of the claimed specs though (4.5-5" of lift) with no mention of UCA requirements? :?:

You can still get a good amount of lift without new UCAs if the full extension of the shocks maintain the same amount of travel as stock. You can buy these shock with standard length/travel.

There are the Extended versions of these shocks which increases travel. With these you have to get new UCAs to accomodate this, or you'll get a loud "clunk" and limit your travel at full droop. I am getting the extended Radflo 2.5 with newer UCA.

Any updates here. I've been looking at the Radflo site a lot these past few days.
