I got a 2008 Pathy SE w/ Bose that has the subwoofer box at the left rear. Spreakers blown on it by Nissan sells the subwoofer box assembly, only, for $571 (around $470 from online dealers). Has anyone replaced the speakers in one of these or knows a company that repairs them for something cheaper than the prices I'm finding?
I blew the sub in my 07 as well. My wife works at Best Buy, so after seeing the ridiculous price of the Bose sub, I said ef it, and just gutted the entire system. Went with a Pioneer in dash DVD, Infinity speakers all around, Alpine amp, and Kicker L3 10" sub in a truck box. I used high strength velcro to keep the box from sliding around (makes for easy removal so I can throw the kid's Power Wheels dune buggy in the back) and it still give me the capability of leaving it in and using the thrid row seats. When I yanked the Bose sub out, I took one look at it and thought highway robbery... 500 bucks for a P.O.S. paper sub that will just blow again in 2 years or less... I couldn't see the point in wasting the money when I could upgrade the entire system for only $300 more. Oh, and one more thing, the entire factory system operates on 1 ohm, which makes it nearly impossible to integrate anything aftermarket into the factory system. Just a heads up.... As for repairing speakers, my adivce is just don't do it... It never lasts long and usually sounds like $h!t!!
Yeah, Simply Speakers in FL said they weren't familiar with that model speaker but would look at it to see if they can do anything with it. A site that offers radio repair states that Bose sells speakers direct for their factory automotive systems for around $40. I'm looking into that. Currently, I just removed that faulty speaker and it is just operating with the one speaker in the subwoofer box, which is much better that before and will do until I sort out my limited options.
I just blew one of my subs the other day. 2008 Pathfinder w/ bose but no navigation. I saw a couple of old threads where individuals were going to get inside the back enclosure and report back, but of course, none of them reported back.
I just started exploring my options but it sounds like the frame isn't friendly to any other sub except for these from Bose. I'm a complete car audio novice, unfortunately.
from what gond said about the quality, however, if these things are so piss-poor, i won't be just trying to find one replacement for whichever one i have blown.

Yeah, the frame is square on the 5-1/4" Bose subwoofer speaker. Also, it's a 1 Ohm speaker whereas most aftermarket speakers are 4 Ohm. I heard eventually from Bose. They said they sell the speaker seperately but currently were out of stock and to check back in a week, which I haven't done yet. They didn't provide me with a price.
How difficult would it be to replace the bose 5 1/4" with aftermarket 5 1/4"? I know that if any of my speakers goes out, I'll be replacing all of them, along with a new HU and sub. It would be nice to fit some 5 1/4" replacements onto the factory Bose sub. I've had a sub box in 3 of my past vehicles & don't really want to do that anymore. As I mentioned, the Bose speaker is a 1-Ohm speaker compared to the 4-Ohm speakers that are typically found on the aftermarket. I called Crutchfield and they don't offer a replacement speaker for the subwoofer. If you want to read a lengthy by good article explaining speaker impedance and why you wouldn't want to install a 4 ohm speaker on a 1 ohm system, try this link:

Fully aware of Ohm ratings, but my question was about removing the Bose 5 1/4" speakers completely & replacing with the aftermarket 5 1/4" bass speakers (not removing the Bose sub housing).
