Interesting. Do you have pictures of the bumper anywhere? I was under the impression that the Frontier bumper fit ours.

Here is a good place to order them (scroll 3/4 way down and look for 'Other Pathfinder Accessories' and click ARB 2005+ Pathfinder)

You know I contacted Rocky-Road and never got any response. Two seperate times infact. Maybe they aren't into the whole e-mail thing but as a person who can't make calls until after 4pm it puts a damper on my requirements. But 4x4connection was on top of their game.

Now to determine if I can justify the need for a bumper like that. Somehow I think not in my case but it'd be nice to have.

Uh . . . that would be me. Based on my information, they will NOT work on a 2WD. YMMV, but check my posts to the following thread and draw your own conclusion -

Mine bottoms out

Postby dezthumper » Wed May 07, 2008 9:28 pm

I have an 05 LE 4x4 (AWD) and with just a driver, the back-end bottoms out over any undulation in the road. It hits pretty hard too. I am the original owner and this phenomenon started happening worst and worst since 20k mi. It now has 50k. I thought it was the shocks and had them replaced. That did nothing. If I have my kiddos and wife in the car, it is only worst. Nissan said they were aware of the issue and that there is no fix. Nissan said the springs are softer for ride comfort... Seems very dangerous to me.

I order the AirLift bags today and will pray that fixes the problem.

This has never towed anything nor had has the hitch ever been used.

The only loads we have in it that really sorta matters is our extended weekend trips to our condo in Rocky Point.

I sure hope the bags work.

I'm sorry but that just doesn't seem possible. If what you're talking about is with just driver and no cargo nor towing, either what you're feeling isn't bottoming out or there's something obviously broken with your truck any dealer/mechanic can find.

I did not have any bottoming out but the rear of the vehicle definitely wanted to drop with any kind of a load. The AirLift airbags solved the problem. I think it is a great product for us. Absolutely no regrets on this one.

This first week we had our Pathfinder we took a road trip. With the four of us which includes small kids in the back and just a couple weekend bags, the rear would bottom on back roads. I put the air bags in right away and have had no issues since. Thanks to Carl for the write up that originally informed me of them.

Maybe subsequent PF models were given stiffer rear springs as the listed vehicle GVWR has increased somewhat over the production years. I've had this 07's seats filled with a full complement of adult weight passengers plus some heavy coolers in the back and no problem with bottoming out on rough roads and highways.

Bottoming out fixed...

Postby go_pats » Wed May 14, 2008 7:01 pm

My '05 was bottoming out when I had 6 or 7 passengers in it. I was not exceeding the CCC of the vehicle. There is a TSB out to adjust the exhaust system. I had Nissan perform the repair under warranty and it has been fine since.

I think what happened is that when I compressed the suspension, the (misaligned) exhaust was hitting part of the vehicle. I wasn't really bottoming out the suspension.

This may explain why most folks don't have the problem. If it was a problem with the suspension (i.e. the springs were too soft), everyone would be complaining about it.

The TSB

Postby go_pats » Wed May 14, 2008 7:11 pm

Here is a snippet from the TSB I mentioned in my previous post:

2005 Pathfinder (R51)
Vehicles built before 5N1AR18**5C749036
Vehicles built before April 1, 2005

IF YOU CONFIRM
There is a rumble, rattle or bang noise coming from the rear (cargo) area of the vehicle when: carrying passengers, going over bumps, accelerating

ACTION
1. Inspect the rear exhaust tube/tail pipe area for contact with the underbody.
2. If contact is present, adjust the exhaust system using the Service Procedure of this bulletin to increase the clearance between the exhaust system and the underbody.

I'll bet they have had this problem past the VIN number in the bulletin. I would guess that they fixed it via a manual inspection step. I'll bet a vehicle or two got out after they added the extra manual steps...

My $0.02,
Mike
