I definitely don't have it on my 2012 SV.Touchdown wrote:Just wondering if the latch got dropped in the 11 & 12 model years because of problems?

Thanks! That thing looks pretty massive. I'd love to see this in the door itself. I can't imagine that they would have redesigned the hatch just for the few that have this motor...in other words, could it possibly go in a non-motorized locking hatch?DanJetta wrote: @ NVSteve: Here's a picture of the latch with the motor.
Ha! I had to gently remind my wife not to slam the hatch. Just lower it until gravity takes over and let it go. Of course, next time we left the grocery store, as soon as I pulled onto the road I got a tailgate open warning. "You said not to slam it" she says.DanJetta wrote:I agree. So weird that they only put it into a couple of years in the middle of a model run. Then again, they did that with the locking gas cap, I think. And I've never seen the same rear DVD system in two Pathfinders.
I'd rather have the manual latch. This thing just seems overcomplicated and unnecessary. And everybody just slams my rear hatch, anyway.
Well, I don't let any other bastards touch my Pathfinder, so I'm not worried about what someone else will do. My girlfriend can open it, but can't close it (too tall for her & too much oomph required for the 225# struts). BUT, the biggest reason I would want the self closing motor is this: when I shut the rear hatch on our Xterra, it sounds solid & identical to closing a side door. On the Pathfinder, even closing the rear hatch gently & delicately as can be, it sounds like the cheapest shit in the world. IMO, they really f'd up the fitment of the hatch. I don't know if it simply needs much thicker seals, door stops or whatever. Or am I the only one experiencing this?DanJetta wrote: I'd rather have the manual latch. Yep, it does have a sealed window. One of these days when I have some time, I'll make a short video opening & closing the hatch on both. MASSIVE amount of difference, at least on my end.ShipFixer wrote:
Actually doesn't the XTerra have a sealed window? The window on mine slightly flutters when I close it. That may contribute to a slightly less solid feel. I don't notice the difference with my friend's XTerra.
Details? What kind of foam? I surprisingly have a rock on the inside of my hatch that rattles around when I open & close it. I'll have to pop the panel off at some point & it would be a good time to add some foam.I damped the sheet metal in mine and installed a layer of foam though, so my hatch feels different from stock and pretty solid. YMMV in other words...
