Ideally, there's no grinding. If it does grind during shift, it's very short because it eventually should engage quickly after. But if it just grinds constantly, then something else is up. The 1-2-3 steps checked out okay?

If you really suspect the diff needs replacing, get another HG46 rear diff from any 1996-02 Pathfinder (HG46 didn't exist for 03-04) or 00-04 Frontier/Xterra. Any transmission, any drive. You can get a LSD diff with the 4.636 gears for a nearly-free upgrade. The models above all have 4.636 (51:11) H...

Just to be sure, you are doing all of the following? 1. At a stop, foot on brake 2. Tranmission in Neutral 3. Pushing transfer case shift-lever down (i.e., pushing into the floor) and sliding upward in a smooth, quick-ish motion (complete in about 1s) from 4L through N into 4H. As mentioned, a brief...

Longer studs are only needed if you're going with thinner spacers, like .5" or .25". Thicker spacers in the 1"+ range need OE studs, because they'll have six holes for them, and provide 6 new studs for attaching the wheel.

Well, we didn't solve his problem; still has the severe vibration during braking and soft pedal. We did discover that the driver's rotor has a run-out of about .11mm, which jut exceeds the .10mm max run-out in the FSM. The passenger rotor was at .02mm. We tried reseating the driver's hub to see if p...

Ok. Guess what I meant is that if the vehicle feels like it's surging with the RPMs, then it's probably more engine-related. But if the RPMs are climbing and nothing's happening, something's slipping. Suppose it wouldn't hurt to give the intake a cleaning and go from there. I had some idling issues ...

Hope I can find an answer for you...my buddy's 02 R50 is also dealing with it. On yours, does the steering wheel also shake violently? How does the brake pedal feel? His shakes violent at higher speeds and the pedal feels a little soft, maybe 75% of what mine feels (and it's pretty firm). Does it fe...

How's the transmission? Does it feel like it's slipping or doggish during those RPM rises?

Didn't think I still had an image around, but these are the parts you'll need, except those 3 cross bars. However, they will fit underneath the top rails. http://s25.postimg.org/86jz0verz/IMG_3755.jpg Once you pop up the plastic end caps, you'll expose the bolts that hold the upper rails to the lowe...

Yep, it'll fit no problem. You'll need pretty much everything except the 6 anchors that you'll find under the existing rails that mount directly to the roof. (Don't remove those from your roof, btw...they're held in by nuts that will fall onto your headliner.)

I think the part SMJ gave is for the back side of the lift support strut. Take a look at this diagram instead: http://parts.nissanusa.com/nissanparts/index.cfm?action=replacement&groupid=E&sectionid=268&jointvehid=11343&siteid=14 I think the p/n is either 26593-0W000 (26983E in diagr...

Yep, no argument there about a particular order. I was only advocating what the FSM describes so that the OP has a sure-fire way to make-ready those sensors. I've been in both situations where, facing emissions testing, drove it randomly for some 100 miles, and drove it according to the FSM pattern....

For what it's worth, I just completed a long road trip during which I reset the ECU a few times (including while driving). I was able to make-ready all of the sensors without doing the driving pattern, and while at highway speeds. So maybe there's hope for you, but you may still want to try a sub-70...

In addition to putting the transmission in Neutral, are you also pressing down on the 4wd shifter when moving up? Shifting between 4H and HL requires depressing the shifter through the transfer case's neutral position.

The Nissan process is pretty specific, but since this is an emissions test, it shouldn't have any requirements for an electrical load. The patterns are both speed and time dependent. And by linear process, I mean a step-by-step and not just a static speed for a given distance. The reason that some m...
