long and short oil filters both fit

You probably do have an oil cooler and it probably came with the short filter from the factory. Like I said, it doesn't really matter which one you use as either will work. Just remember the longer filter will require a little bit more oil. Yes when I do my oil changes ,I check the dip stick and al...

about the screws falling out

It's really up to 2004 models; it wasn't an issue on R51s. It was also an issue on some of the QR25DE engines. Basically, it was just a matter of too little Loctite on the bolt threads for the power valve butterflies. I guess it's a matter of "better safe than sorry," not unlike the preve...

no problem with installing either long or short oil filter

Here's the skinny: the shorter filter was developed when they started putting oil coolers on the VQ engine. Those that didn't have the oil cooler, had the longer filter. But, once those vehicles with the oil coolers started hitting the dealer for service, techs realized that the longer filters woul...

Power Valve intake Manifold Screws Loosen

I have seen service bulletins about this happening on on 2002 -2005 Pathfinders, the Power Valve intake Manifold Screws can become loose and fall into the pistons and destroy your engine , the fix is they take it apart and put lock-tight on the 12 set screws in the Power Valve unit intake manifold ...

conventional oil recommendation pathfinder

There's no difference in the seals in your VQ engine than there is in the VQ engines used in the R51 Pathfinders...and a whole lot of R51 owners, including myself, are using synthetic oil without any problems. But, if you're worried about it, keep using conventional. Conventional oils these days ar...

synthetic oil seeps

Keep in mind your manual is 15 years old and synthetics weren't widely excepted by manufacturers back then. Time has passed and use of synthetics are more common place. You can use synthetic oil in your engine without any problems, if you wish to. It's not going to hurt the engine. are you sure bec...

also on the weight of the conventional oil

I don't see you having an issue running any conventional motor oil. All these oils all have to meet the industry standard. I personally prefer Valvoline but lately I just get the best deal at the parts store. The OEM Nissan filter is very good but you could run a purolator, Fram, or mobil brand fil...

cant use a synthetic and have 2 conventional types in mind

in my 2003 LE pathfinders manual it states do not use a synthetic oil , so I have been changing the oil at 4,000 miles with a filter Nissan type and using conventional mobile 5000 or Quaker state 10 W 30 with 110,000 mile on the engine , what is a better of the 2 oils , or should I just go to a big...
