Re: Rear lift Gate Hatch

Over 5 years ago, I replaced mine with the 200lb
McMaster lifters. You just unscrew the ends off your old ones and thread them onto the new ones. Super easy job, and the rear hatch opens fully and easily, regardless of the temperature.

Re: Where under the hood is the heater inlet pipe?

Like clockwork…hit 198000 miles, and the plastic heater hose junction pops, in the exact manner the Shipfixer’s failed. Luckily I was close to home and pulled into the garage without the engine overheating. I’m going to try the wholesale parts metal part, as it is currently on sale for $100 with fre...

Re: Steering feels terrible

When I rebuilt the front end on mine, I also installed the polyurethane steering rack bushings from PRG. I feel like it made a difference in stiffening up the steering feel of the rig. If you still have factory rear suspension, I would try to stiffen it up with new springs, or Airride bags, in order...

Re: V8 Brake Upgrade - using V6 rotors

I did the V8 upgrade on my ‘05. The increase in stopping power was immediately noticeable, especially with my camper attached driver through the mountains. In my experience with bicycle disc brakes, a larger diameter rotor has more braking force and cooling efficiency. Like you mentioned, leverage.

Re: front struts squeak and creak?

I had an annoying front end squeak as well. Turned out the hood latch was the source. I wrapped some electrical tape around the metal hoop on the hood, latched it tight, and squeak disappeared. Good luck!

Re: Windshield Washer Nozzles

There were two different designs for the washer nozzles that I’ve seen: those with replaceable nozzles like my ‘05, or those where the nozzles are built into the cowl. Mine are replaceable, but nonexistent in the Nissan catalog. I took my old ones out, went to the local Autozone, and found a new set...

Re: Trying to ID Drivetrain Sound

I’m guessing wheel bearings. While you’re in there, I would replace the CV joints, front seals, and u-joints on the driveshafts. With your high mileage, these are worth replacing anyway.

Re: XTP intake spacer installed

That makes sense. I was able to pinch the bracket with the bolts without putting too much upward force on the plenum. Feels rock solid now, thanks guys.

XTP intake spacer installed

With the Pathy hitting 175k, I figured it was time for a tune-up. The NGK iridiums had 90k on them, and replaced one coil a couple years back. I got the NGK ruthenium plugs, and 5 more Hitachi coils, in addition to the XTP intake spacer. The plugs were definitely showing their age when I pulled them...

Front end rebuild

A torn CV boot and worn out ball joint prompted me to overhaul the front end of the rig. With 170k miles, I figured it was due anyway, especially since going to larger tires. I ended up ordering the Mevotech front end kit from RockAuto, along with Timken hubs, Cardone CV axles, and new camber bolts ...

Re: Larger Tires on Stock Suspension

Sorry for the delayed response... After replacing the front struts, I did not notice much of a difference in height. I suppose the factory springs may have settled over time, so now it’s back to where it was originally. The AirRide bags don’t noticeably lift the rear in my opinion, but it makes for ...

I ended up using my sawzall/cutoff wheel/dremel and cut off the bracket that captures the nut. Even after I cut it out, I still had to soak it with penetrant and use a torch to heat the nut and finally get it off with the impact gun. It was a chore, for sure.

Timing chain class action claim

Though my ‘05 was not affected by the timing chain issue, I still received a claim form in the mail, and thought I would share the info here. It looks like Nissan is paying out to people who paid out of pocket for timing chain repairs on 2005 - 2007 models. It says you can upload your claim at www...

Also consider upgrading your brakes before adding the additional rotating mass of larger tires.

I have an ‘05 LE with 17†wheels. I replaced the front struts with factory stuff, and put the AirRide bags in the back. I just put 255/75 R17 Goodyear Wrangler Duratraks on there, and they clear. They come close to rubbing the front mud flap while turning, but no contact. I love the tires so far,...
