Re: ABS coming on all the time

You were right! I wiped all the codes and re-scanned for codes - got 0 errors. So I decided to take for a drive and scan for codes again when I hit the brakes a few time and the ABS was actuating. Here’s the weird thing though - I still get 0 codes. I’m stumped now. Any suggestions where I go from h...

Re: ABS coming on all the time

So I was able to drive around a little more earlier today. I can hear it actuating around even while I’m driving. If I tap my brakes irrespective of driving straight or through a corner, it causes the ABS to come on. I pulled out the ABS fuse and sure enough no ABS kicking on (but it also makes me l...

Re: ABS coming on all the time

This is probably not your cause, but...I once had this issue because Sears installed one slightly smaller tire in a new set of four. Didn't notice for a couple months until ABS noticed the speed difference between the two rear wheels downhill coming out of the mountains at highway speeds and starte...

Re: ABS coming on all the time

Gotcha, thanks for laying that out logically. Any advise on how to check for the SAS outside of taking it to a shop with a fancy scanner? I’ve had a failing ABS wheel speed sensor on a previous vehicle, but that one would only occur when I was at really low speeds (like 20mph or so). This one has m...

Re: ABS coming on all the time

If the SAS is "falsing" a few milliseconds at a time then there may not be any codes in it, because the ABS doesn't realize anything is wrong. That's actually pretty common when SAS's first begin to fail. Less commonly, a miscalibrated or failing G-sensor could cause similar issues with n...

Re: ABS coming on all the time

The ABS should have codes in it. Could be a wheel sensor, but could also be the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS), they're a frequent-failure item on R51's. If that is the issue, check prices on a whole combination switch instead of just the sensor. The price for those sensors alone is semi-insane and a ...

Re: ABS coming on all the time

is it anything like what this Nissan had a problem with? Nissan Pathfinder: Traction Control Kicks On When Turning A Corner https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hc8X7eEMpSw&ab_channel=SouthMainAutoRepairLLC If not, then wheel sensor is my bet on this. Scan tool hooked up while driving will determine...

ABS coming on all the time

I’m having this issue now for the past 2 drive cycles where the abs actuator is constantly cycling irrespective of what speeds I’m driving - incidentally I didn’t drive past 50mph on both drives. So I’m not sure what it would do at highway speeds. Any time I hit the brakes it feels like ABS is kicki...

Re: Can blinker 3-times auto be reprogrammed to 5-times?

Not to my knowledge. If memory serves the R51's all had SEC's, which were sort of the BCM's prehistoric ancestor. The SEC's had control over stuff like the dome lamps but not external systems like the blinker. The blinkers would be a traditional flasher relay directly triggered by the combination s...

Re: Can blinker 3-times auto be reprogrammed to 5-times?

Thanks - you’re totally correct. I should have been more clearer with my previous post. When I just “tap” the turn signal/light stalk without latching it into position, it doesn’t do the 3 blinks like I’ve seen other cars do. I was just curious if this was a feature on any years of the R51 platform?...

Is this factory programmed?
My 2011 doesn’t have the auto blinkers for either directions.

Re: R.I.P. my 2006 Pathy

Very sorry for your loss. But glad that you and your family are safe.
I hope you’ll continue being on this forum as your advise has been very valuable for a lot of members including myself.

Do you plan to get another R51 and harvest this one for parts or will you be parting this one out?

Re: Heated Seat Repair - R51

Reviving an old thread - my seat bottom heater stopped working on the driver’s seat (2011 Silver Edition) Any ideas on how to find replacement heated pads? Do the folks here have any suggestions for ones that would be plug and play? Are there “gotchas” with the airbag connectors? The ones on my Toyo...

Re: Help removing rear shock bolts

Thanks! Yeah, that was a real bear to remove. Definitely a learning experience (hopefully one I don’t have to deal with again!) The replacement shocks are the FCS brand ones from RA. I don’t really tow or haul much stuff (maybe once every 6 months if that). I figured it would be fine to roll the dic...

Re: Help removing rear shock bolts

Nice work! Which Metabo tool did your neighbor have? Don't forget to share pics of the newly installed shocks for us. Thanks! I’m not sure on the exact model number, but it’s an angle grinder. We used a 5” cut off wheel for the job. Sadly, I didn’t take any pictures of the shocks once they were on ...
