I'd replace the ball joints, they can cause what you're describing, it did on mine, and it can't hurt anyway, especially if the boots are shot. Nothing to lose by doing them.

Could also be the little rubber bumper thing that engages the brake pedal switch. Mine disintegrated so the brake light was permanently on and that ended up killing the battery. Raided the junk yard and now there's three or four of the things floating around in the car somewhere.

I'd replace the flasher relay. It's under the dash on the driver's side, has three pins/connectors and it sounds to me like it needs replacing. Buy a new one, find the relay that looks like it under the dash and replace it.

FYI, you /can/ replace the 90 degree coolant bypass line thing without removing the rear timing cover. Sounds like a dead battery to me. They /can/ just go bad like that. If you have a multimeter, check the battery voltage and what not.
