Dealer was relatively cheap, and very helpful actually. Hit a snag: The Moog replacement adjuster bolts are waaaay too long for the spring carrier arms mount, so back to the dealer on Monday for the official parts. I will decide when I see them whether to not use the Moog bolts at all, or just for t...
Well. Got the LCA's out after much cutting (went through 5 more blades, that's 9 so far, plus a cutoff disc). Ended up having to cut the spring carrier link bolts out too, because those eccentric adjusters were rusted solid inside the bushings just like the LCAs. So I am kind of pissed off, naturall...
It's not really a question so much of raising the rear as it is levelling it and reducing bottoming-out and general spring apathy. I don't have any lift at all on my '05, and I have the bags in the rear. If I pump them up to say 15psi or so, the rear comes up noticeably, but that just makes it level...
Well I got down to it last night. Already had the Path up on stands, garage cleared out so I could get to work, and two days' worth of Aero-Kroil (aircraft-quality version of PB Blaster, astonishingly good but probably massively carcinogenic). Pulled the Rancho rear shocks out - that was really easy...
Airbags absolutely. They really are easy to do, and work really well.
But I would reject the Ranchos and go for Bilstein HD in the rear at least - my 10-month-old Ranchos just failed, and I never liked them that much in the first place. They made me mad.
That's good info, thanks. The dealer checked the alignment as part of a pre-trip safety inspection, found the rear was out, and told me that the bolts were seized. I don't know for sure how badly seized, but we're about to find out I guess...
Yes, and it is out significantly, but can't be adjusted because the cam bolts are seized, which means new cam bolts which almost certainly means new LCAs because the bushings are probably rusted onto the bolts... I also discovered that one of the Rancho shocks I put on about a year ago has failed an...
That might also lead you to needing to replace the cam bolts, which might lead to you replacing the LCAs after you destroy the LCAs getting the bolts out...
Going through this exact scene too right now, except I don't have a lift.
So I am preparing to replace the LCAs on the rear. I'm not too worried about the work or the how-to; I have read up, and have lots of experience cursing at rusted bolts and smashing my hands on sharp things while lying under various vehicles trying to oil, torch and saw them out. (I have previously ...
I've just spent a couple hours trying to find rear LCAs for my 2005 XE. There seems to be lots of fronts, but no rears. Any suggestions (other than the dealer)? I'm in Vancouver, BC. Also: When you folks have replaced the (forward) rear LCAs, did you also replace the (aft) spring seat arms as well? ...
U P D A T E: Nissan Canada is replacing the rad and transmission, 100% warranty coverage. I am a very relieved dude and looking forward to a long driving vacation down the Oregon coast. I'll stay with these forums, there is a ton of great info in here. Thank you to all the posters who informed my di...
