So whats common to go bad on these?

Postby MaxiPath » Sun Mar 23, 2008 10:36 pm

Hey guys, new to the Pathfinder world, just got my first Pathy 2 days ago (check intro thread) and will be doing some extensive maintenance work on it soon, what are things that are common on this generation pathfinders? I got a 1994 SE.

Thanks
John

I don't want to direct traffic away from this site but go check out the recall's section over at www.nissanhelp.com and the WD21 forum there also. You will find all kinds of good info that you can bring back with you here. There just hasn't been many of the older Nissan owners joining up here yet so your question may lay dormant for a long while.

No problem. There are a few other websites out there that you should be able to find if you google the following that have pretty good info also: NPORA, NOAS4X4club, Nissan4wheelers and Nissan Offroad.

parts that go bad

lol, the header bolts, yup, but if your going to replace them, i would at minimum have heads rebuilt, complete overhaul would be better.

From my experience, and pulling parts from a yard, I have noticed that the following go bad

EGR Valve
O2 Senser
Smog canister
Timing belt needs to be replaced.
and the top of that list is the enjectors. If you have like mine with the throttle body.

hope that helps.

I'm hear to shake things up a bit... rear main seals, valve covers, powersteering stuff, and rear trailing arm bushings.

The timing belt is a 60,000 service item (meaning replace it that often)

That said, the two biggest problems I'm aware of are the header bolts, as has been said, and from what I can tell the automatic transmissions (as built by Nissan) are weak and prone to breaking.
