PF cooling fan turns on after 1-2 minutes of idle. Normal?

I have a 2005 SE 4x4 with 133,500 miles. Under normal driving conditions the temp needle is pointing in the 3:30 or 4 o'clock position (1 o'clock being hot, 5 o'clock being cold). I've noticed lately that after a normal drive in average weather if I let the vehicle idle for about 1 minute the cooling fan will turn on? Is this normal behavior? I would think it could idle without risk of overheating in 70 degree weather. I don't think it's always been like this, maybe it has and I didn't notice.

I got the coolant replaced about 4 years ago around 85,000 miles when I did the coolant/tranny bypass. There is no coolant leak on the garage floor. Admittedly, I have not yet checked the actual level of the coolant. I use synthetic oil and change the oil every 10,000 miles.
