Replacing the catalytic converters

Postby oreogaborio » Mon Apr 20, 2015 8:49 pm

2005, V6, 180k miles.

Think my cats are toast. Started getting a CEL last summer. Code pointed to driver's side, so I spaced out the rear O2 sensor with a bored out spark plug defouler. That took care of it for a while, but it came back & it's been back for a while now and both banks throwing codes.

What are my options? Need to do this on a budget. Don't plan on keeping the vehicle for much longer. 2-3 years at the very most.

If the O2 spacer didn't work, the only option left is to replace the catalytic converter. If you are able to use aftermarket converters in your state, Rockauto.com has some less expensive options. Bosal and Walker units are pretty good.
