Should I replace Cats with new exhaust

Postby HoneyMonster256 » Tue Oct 27, 2015 12:24 pm

So I picked up a Gibson exhaust a while back and I'm wanting to get it installed. I was thinking about the stock cats & I was wondering if I should replace both the front & rear cats with high flow cat's.

The plan is to install the Stillen supercharger at some point, so I will probably get headers also.

Thoughts? Also what are the correct part numbers for the front & rear Cats?

I would say remove old cats and put new ones and for sure remove that y pipe for the best hp gain
My cats stink every cold start up with 125k

I would wait until you install headers before dealing with the front cats. I think Doug Thorley makes a straight pipe to replace the rear cats if you don't have rigid emissions testing where you live.

Now that's a statement that people will tell you Go Big. And its not true at all. These motors need back pressure to work properly, or you will loose your low end torque, that is if you go big exhaust.. I have VK56 V8 pathfinder, with headers and catless B pipes. Dual muffler in, single out just like oem v8 and v6's, and its all 2.5 inch from the motor to the tail pipe. With v6 i wouldn't go bigger then 2, max 2.25 inch. And never dual tails. If you are planing to go stillen. Deff go. with headers.

When i said go big i didnt mean bigger diameter lol
I ment replace the y pipe if you're doing mufflers. I just imagined a 3 Inch exhaust tip like a diesel truck lol
