Fan Clutch

After replacing my rad, I decided it was also time to do my fan clutch. The truck has been noisy for a few years now, and I did try to replace it with an aftermarket part about 2 years ago. I ended up taking it off and putting the old one back on, as the truck sounded like a freakin hovercraft.

The dealer had to order it in, after tax it was just over $200 Canadian. Removed engine cover and intake tube, then unbolted the shroud. Could bend the shroud back enough to get access to the fan bolts, then removed the clutch. All in all, it took about 30 minutes.

Started up the truck and heard the howl of the fan, which made my heart sink. However, once it ran for a while and I drove it, the truck is actually eerily quiet now. So worth it!

Will be watching my fuel economy now to see if there's a bit of a bump. That would be nice!

Did your mpg improve? I'm in the same boat, and tired of the noise.

Noise is way better, but no other noticeable improvements.
