V8 Owner Question

Postby Nitroracer » Wed Dec 30, 2015 5:54 pm

Would one of the V8 Pathfinder owners mind posting a picture of their brake master cylinder?

I purchased a new MC recently for a V8 Pathy that I am going to install on my V6 Frontier. The pedal feel is very soft on the factory brakes and upgrading to the V8 MC provides a larger MC bore with better feel. The only problem is that the master cylinder I got in the mail has four ports, whereas my truck is only setup for two ports. The other V8 engine bays I have seen didn't show the lower ports so I am wondering if I received the wrong part. If you could mark the ports where each line goes on the MC and ABS distribution block I would really appreciate the help! I was only able to trace the top two lines shown in the pictures below.

2005 and later master cylinders on the Pathfinder, Frontier and Xterra all have four brake lines coming out of them. What year Frontier do you have? There were differences between the RWD, 4WD and SE-OR master cylinders, but they still all had four lines.

I went out and took a few pictures of my 2012 Frontier SV V6 4x4 Manual - Only two ports are available on the master cylinder. The lower ports at an angle are blanks.

I found some brake system PDF's as well which seem to say the part is wrong, but I'd like to know from an actual V8 Pathy.

Well, after doing a little research, I found master cylinders with two, four and even three-port configurations. Only one master cylinder is listed for the V8 Pathfinders (which are all auto trans in the US) from 2008-12, which is Nissan #46010-ZS61A and has four-ports. Two-port master cylinders were used on manual trans & V6 equipped 2010-13 Frontiers and 2008-13 Xterras (46010-ZS10A) and auto trans & V6 equipped 2008-15 Frontiers and Xterras and 2010-12 V6-equipped Pathfinders (46010-ZS00A). Prior to that, there are different part numbers vary depending on RWD vs. 4x4, Off-road editions, transmission, etc. I'm guessing the Pathy V8 master cylinder upgrade applies to those earlier year Frontiers equipped with four-port master cylinders?

Thanks for looking into things closer, I do appreciate the information. Did you find the Nissan specs on a website or through some dealer only channels?

From what I could find my truck runs the 2-port MC with a 1" bore, and I would like to upgrade to a larger bore MC like I had found in the V8 Pathfinder. In your search did you find any 2-port master cylinders with a larger bore than 1"?

I checked on Rockauto and compared the different models and year compatibility. I didn't get into bore sizes.
