2003 se 2wd and 2001 le 4wd - swap trannys??

Postby Ateter4242 » Mon May 30, 2016 11:01 pm

Hi all,

New to forums, and Pathfinders in general, but now find myself with two of them. Sorry for the long post, but here is the story.

I bought a 2001 le 4wd in January, and love it. It needed tires though, so I found a 2003 se 2wd and swapped the rims and almost new tires onto it. The 03 I got cheap because the previous owner thought it blew the head gasket. It blows white smoke while driving, but still has good power, no overheating, and no mixing of oil or coolant. I suspect a broken oil control ring, or maybe valve seal I didn't figure on fixing it, just pulling parts for my 4wd.

Recently though, the trans went in the 2001, and I want to know if it possible to use the trans from the 2wd in the 4wd. I was told the output shaft is bigger, but can you use some of the other running gear, maybe swap the yoke, transfer case, etc.? Has anyone done this swap before. I could also pull the motor and fix, but I prefer the 4wd for sure.
