Tried new shocks, maybe new springs?

Postby x2thez » Fri Jul 09, 2010 4:43 am

I have a 2005 LE, and with 4 people in the pf, it drives like a slush bucket. Mainly the rear end, and it doesnt take much to bottom out the back end. I can only imagine what it would be like if I had someone in the 3rd row.

I convinced my dealer to put in new shocks, they did, and it is a slight bit better but not much.

I did some reading online, and it looks like the V8 Model has a different part number, and my assumption would be they are stronger due to the higher tow capacity.

Has anyone tried this? Anything else that I can try thats reasonably priced?

Thanks.

It's beyond the shocks. I installed Bilsteins (which will be better than whatever they put on the V8 ) and the control is a bit better but there's still a lot of initial movement. It's gotta be spring related. I'm going to install airlift bags next to see what that does mainly because it's cheap and I haven't seen any springs that I'm sold on.

air lift will stiffen up the rear. it did with my r51. do a search on the air lift and you will see how many people swear by it.

I have no doubt it will stiffen it up in the rear but I'm not sure it will really do much for the handling. Either way the butt-sag with a load is not attractive so we'll try the airlift.

Does anyone that has the V8 have the same issue? I am guessing those springs are stronger than the V6....

Man, I did the same thing as the OP. Replaced the back shocks and indeed, it stiffened up a bit. But it is still to soft. If there are 4 people in the vehicle... bounce bounce. Very annoying.

Anybody have a link to the "air" thing the other posters are speaking of?
