fault codes

How do you get access to fault codes without a reader? Just got a SES on the way to work. DTE reads 0.

Unfortunately, money talks arounds here. No one reads them for free unless it's a true friend.

Since fuel gauge related readings are working again, I thought I'd try to get rid of the SES light. So this is what I did.

Disconnected & reconnected the battery... SES, VDC and Slip lights come on when the engine runs.

Drove around for a bit, lights stayed on... got home, shut it off.

Then turned the key to "on" and slip light goes out, but the other 2 stay on.

I wonder if it has anything to do with a near dead battery over the weekend where I required a jump. Alternator?

I bought a code reader at sears for about $70. I think they had one cheaper, maybe $50. For the convenience, it might be worth it in the long run. I carried it with me when my fuel level sensor was shot.
