Let me just start by saying that I am disappointed. :(
The cold air kit doesnt seem to make the difference that I hoped to. I know that there are all kinds of variable conditions at play when runnin' down the drag strip. The stuff that I DO know, was in my favor though. At least the temps and humidity were better than the last time I went.

Last night, Feb 6, 2008.
10pm 45deg F 41% humidity
11pm 45deg 38%

Last time, on Dec 5, 2007.
10pm 52deg F 67% humidity
11pm 50deg 71%

Okay folks, here are my best results from last night. These are also the last two runs I made of the evening...

At 10:47pm a 15.32 @ 89.09
At 10:55pm a 15.28 @ 89.52

Dec 5th, my best two times were...

At 10:56pm a 15.30 @ 88.90
At 10:59pm a 15.31 @ 89.20

The end results just arent too impressive. I expected more out of the proclaimed 14.27 hp gain... to the rear wheels!

So, with my best OEM air cleaner times vs. best cold air intake kit times...
.02 second gain, 1/4 mile ET.
.32 second gain, 1/4 mile mph.

I hope that the cold air kit would really work well with better exhaust. My exhaust is still stock. Maybe freeing up the air intake doesnt do much good when the same, restrictive exhuast is being used. BUT, then again, I am not the one that claims a 14.27 hp gain to a stock Nissan!!

Thanks a lot for the report :)

A little bit disapointing...

May be it's because you did not change the exhaust or/and the ECU O² regulating process...

and the ECU O² regulating process...
Are you talking about a performance reprogramming of the ECU? Or just resetting it, like disconnecting the battery? Whatcha mean?

I friend of mine mentioned disconnecting the battery when I first got to the track... Of course, he didnt mention it until after I had my disasppointing results.

I am sure I will go again.

I mean reprograming it because I suppose the ECU is regulating the intake O² with the Lambda sensor. So with more air flow due to your direct intake kit, the ECU may reduce the air admission level to conform to the original O² ratio needed...see what I mean?

That is what a lot of cars do now, retard the engine so that you get the same performance after the upgrades as before. The Titans had the same issue, people would put on an intake and exhaust, and have only marginally better performance. Not enough to write home about anyway.

My understanding is that it is an emissions regulation thing. The engineers don't want their cars polluting the air, so this is their way to fix that...

Edit: With the Titans, a few people added a Stillen suercharger to the mix, that helped.

Thats what Carl, the NissanPath site administrator, did to his Pfinder.
