Replacing Radiator: How many hrs labor?

Postby aadadams » Wed Aug 24, 2011 2:21 pm

Is 3.8 hrs labor right for this job? My local shop is wanting 3.8 hrs and it seemed high off the cuff... Opinions?

R&R only. I have a leak at the radiator neck which is why I am replacing it. The leak is small. I lost about half a gallon of coolant in about a month. They said something about the condenser and other components having to be removed causing that amount of labor. I thought it was BS... Thanks Tech!

Granted those rads are a bit of a pain, because the condensor and the rad share the side brackets. You have to lift the condenser, but the rad is actually on the inside, trapping the condenser. Did they maybe quote you condenser time? I think if you shopped around, you could get the thing done parts and labor for close to that. I'd charge maybe 1.5-2hrs. even at the average dealer rate, thats $225...

I just replaced mine. Took me about 1.5hrs. I had to fight with those side brackets to get the rad out. So instead i just bent them up to slide the new one back in. Then just bent them back into place. So much easier than fighting with those horribly designed brackets.

So just bend them up to get it out than bend them back after the new one is in.

Per ALLDATA, labor guide time is 3.0 hours to replace the radiator.
