Per service bulletin NTB08-049B, Type "S" is the only recommend fluid for the Nissan 7-spd. RWD trans. The 5-spd. RWD trans (like that used in our Pathy's) lists both Type "S" and Type "J." It notes,"Use Matic J if Matic S is not available." Personally, I've been using Valvoline Maxlife ATF in the trans and AWD transfer case of my 06 LE and in the trans and part-time transfer case of an 08 SE for two years and haven't had any problems nor have noticed any changes in performance. At $20 per 4 qt. jug, it's also a lot cheaper than Nissan ATF and states is recommended for Nissan Types "D," "K," "J" and "S." I've heard that Nissan Type "S" is actually Castrol Multi-Import ATF.
