Truck Pull: V6 Pathy OR vs V8 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4

Postby 08OR » Tue May 26, 2009 2:10 pm

OK, the disclaimer. I did a childish thing by accepting a challenge from a friend down in Mexico who wanted to show off his truck: i put my 2008 OR V6 (4x4) up against his 2000 Chevy Silverado V8 4x4 in a truck pull. Kids, don't try this at home.

The facts: we were on dirt, pretty loose, but not overly so, not sand. I have new Nitto TG ATs; he, aging MTs of some sort, but w/ some good tread left. He agreed to not use 4x4 to keep it 'fair.' Well, he cheated, and, he lost.

All in all it was pretty even but when it was said and done, his truck ended up about where mine began (about 20 feet or so; i didn't measure the tow strap).

I've read about the awards and accolades of the R51 motor, but I really didn't think i'd out-pull a V8 4x4.

Nice work!

I wonder how much load you end up pulling doing something like this? The truck weighs several thousand lbs plus the fact that it is driving the opposite direction. I would think you are exceeding the tow rating by a substantial amount. Probably not the best thing for your drive train.

Agreed, which explains the disclaimer. This was a one time deal
