Rear Suspension Spongy

I have an '08 SE with a V8. Whenever I have a fill load in the cabin and go over a bump or dip, the rear suspension feels like it bottom's out. Is this typical of Pathy's? I am not a fan. Want to get some beefier suspension without sacrificing the ride. Any suggestions?
