help a newbie!!!

ok so i havent yet but i am about to trade my 89 s10 blazer for a 1991 v6 5spd pathfinder. it has over 300k miles but im in desperate need a 4x4 where i live so im sacrifcing my car to get this pathy. so what should be the first part/parts i should look at to ensure that it wont break down on me in the first week or so? the owner has pretty much put an entirely new transmission and clutch so all that is good. but what should i try to replace or fix first?
