Replaced the rear upper links/control arms- 02 Path LE

Postby 02Pathfind » Tue Sep 07, 2010 10:52 am

I was getting "the sway" from the back end and the rear diff would grind when I hit the gas so I got the upper links on ebay and put them in. Got the replacement bolts too. We had to heat all 4 bolts to get them out. They came out easy but I had a professional grade impact wrench and compressor with about 800 ft.lbs of torque. I soaked all 4 bolts with pb blaster an hour before the job. The driver side was tough getting back in since the alighment was off. This is what we did:
1. drop the gas tank shroud in the rear
2. remove the driver side rear tire
3. disconnect the sway link on the drivers side
4. disconnect the filler neck shrould at the bottom
5. torch the 2 bolts on the pass side and remove them
6. do the same on teh drivers side
7. install the pass side link
8. you may need somebody to help pry the drivers link to get the bolts in since everythign in the rear is out of alignment. it was out on my rig by half inch or beter.
9. put everything else back and yur done. took us about 2 hours.
