List of the common defects, issues, repairs for 2005+ PFs

Postby Cracker » Tue Aug 07, 2012 11:09 am

Can we please compile a list of the common defects, issues, repairs for 2005+ Pathfinders? I'm mostly interested in the issues that can affect all (or at least 80%) of North American PFs. I'm aware of the following:
1. Fuel Sending Unit (inaccurate gas gauge). Fix: replace it.
2. Coolant leaking into the transmission fluid. Fix: bypass the radiator.
3. Timing chain tensioners wearing out (Google search "NTB09-128"). Fix: new secondary timing chain and tensioners.

Please reply with additional issues and a BRIEF explanation of the fix or Google keyword search.

Thanks,
--David

-Belt noise due to serpentine tensioner. Replace with new belt and countermeasure tensioner per TSB.
-coolant and AC lines leaking to the rear HVAC unit on those models equipped with it. Body has to be lifted off the frame to replace the complete line, or sections of the line can sometimes be repaired without lifting the body.
-clunk in front over bumps due to worn front sway bar mount bushings. Install new bushings per TSB.
-clunk in front over bumps due to worn body mount bushings. Have to remove bushings from between frame and body to inspect, which at that point, one might as well install new bushings.
-squeek from hood latch occuring while driving over rough roads. Take a 6" piece of electrical tape and wrap it around the bottom of the hood latch "loop."
-mulitple trouble codes including U1001 CAN COMM due to poor grounding. Clean multiple grounds in engine compartment and under dash per TSB.
-VDC light "on" and/or rough idle after disconnecting battery. Relearn steering wheel position sensor memory and idle air volume, as necessary.
-P0420/P0430 codes. Replace incident upstream catalytic converter, as necessary. Check for signs of oil burning on inlet side of catalyst media and for broken media. If there is, you "may" have scored cylinder walls due to bits of catalyst media being sucked back into the combustion chambers during the EGR function. If the engine is burning oil, it will destroy the new converter(s).
-Oil pressure gauge reading "max" pressure. Replace oil pressure sender.
-seized rear control arm bushings found when doing a wheel alignment. Replace control arm(s) in rear, as necessary and align.
-Rear suspension bottoms out/rear sag while towing/unsatisfactory ride. Replace rear shocks with montotube type, ie Bilstein HD's or Monroe Reflex. Install Airlift 1000 air bags.
-leak at back of transfer case. Refer TSB.
-Constant loud 'roar' from engine compartment due to faulty fan clutch. Replace fan clutch assy. (Stay with genuine Nissan part!)

Did I forget anything?

Faulty IPDM (ECM relay). Will cause engine to shut or not start. The fix required replacing the entire IPDM module but now I've heard just the ECM relay can be purchased from a dealer.

-Stalling and no start issues and/or MIL due to bad camshaft or crank position sensors. Replace incident sensor.
