Bearings question

Postby sdg1963 » Tue Nov 12, 2013 9:43 am

Is it better to repack or to replace them? What are the warning signs one should be looking for when it comes to worn bearings. Noticed my truck has a slight humming sound, and suspect it is a bearing.
Thanks, as always.

by the time a bearing is making noise or vibration, re-packing is not likely to be a solution
any bearing that makes noise is probably worn/damaged and needs replacement

You can't repack the front wheel bearings on an R51. They are a wheel hub assy., similar to what GM products have been using for years. They are easy to replace, though.
