2005 Pathfinder: amp/speaker wiring question

Postby myriad46 » Fri Mar 20, 2009 9:05 am

I am in the process of adding an amplifier and aftermarket speakers to my 2005 Pathfinder. I have the non-bose, stock system.

At this point, I could either run brand new speaker wires from the amp to all 4 doors (pain in the butt), or I could run speaker wires from the amp to behind the stereo, and use the factory wires from there out to the doors. I am planning on a 4x50 watt (RMS) amplifier at this point.

Also, I am not quite sure what I am going to do about the factory tweeters in the dashboard. If I understand correctly, they are run in parallel with the front door 6x9s. If that's the case, I do not want to share the 50 watts between the 2.

I have a couple of scenarios in mind:

- I could unhook them entirely and rely on the 3-way 6x9s for treble.
- I could run aftermarket tweeters off of the stereo and let the amp take care of the door speakers.
- I could also get a separate amp for the front 6x9s (more power, maybe 75x2) and let the front channels of the 4x50 run the tweeters.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.
