lift setup for long distance travel

Postby Phiakong » Wed Jun 11, 2014 1:41 pm

Hello guys im new to the site and new to lifting. Ive looked and searched most thread on here about lifting and I think I know what set up I am going with which is the Rancho quick lift. It seems to me that that set up is pretty popular. my question is with this rancho quick lift suspension, is it ok with long distance travels? I live in Wisconsin and I do a lot of traveling going up north. also I am planning on buying a set or 17inch wheels with 285/70 tires. If not please fill me in, will appreciate your help and support

you can adjust the stiffness in the front end. i drive anywhere from 10-250 miles a day for work and have no issues with mine.

I see. I forgot they have the adjustment in the front struts. 250 miles is probably what I will be doing. is it necessary to get new shocks in the rear when I install the spacers?

its not necessary but if you have a lot of miles on the rear you can switch them out with adjustable ranchos too. i added air lift bags. they help keep the rear from sagging and bouncing all the time.

thanks for the help. now I feel a little more confident on lifting. I don't like the sag either so for now im gonna go with air lifts instead of new shocks in the back.

if your shocks are worn or leaking, a new set will definitely improve the ride
air bags will help too, but not as much with bad rear shcoks
i'd do both at the same time if possible

I take long trips several times a year and the ranchos ride nicely. 4x4 parts is a great place to get them. Remember you need the front struts, the rear shocks, and the rear spacers. And you'll need a 4 wheel alignment afterwards. I run 285/70/17 on my '07 le and have no issues. I have my ranchos on 7 in the front and 7 in the back and I like the way that feels on the road. You will have to figure out what works for you. Consider getting the airlift bags for the rear as it improves the road ride greatly
