Bilsten HD shocks and Airlift 1000 air bags for 2012?

Postby TNhunter » Mon Mar 28, 2016 6:33 pm

I've read on many many threads about the Bilstein HD shocks and Airlift 1000 air bags. Are they both recommended to compensate for the weak rear springs on the 2012 models as well?

Well - after further reading it seems these both are probably good investments. Certainly the Airlift 1000 - so I just ordered them from Advance Auto.

I have both and definitely think they're worth the investment. The bags keep the rear from sagging and, to my surprise, they hold air really well. Mine have held 20 lbs for three years, now, without having to be topped off.

The Bilsteins made a big difference in my '08 because I was riding on the original factory shocks. Yours, still being relatively young, might not show such a big difference.

The air bags help compensate for the week springs; the Bilsteins just ride better than the stock shocks.

Installed the air bags this morning. I currently have the hoses tied up to the hitch while I figure out a mounting bracket for them. I will have something installed by the end of the day for them. After I get them aired up I'll decide on whether to get the Bilstein HD shocks.

You'll notice a lot more difference with the air bags than you will with the shocks, assuming your shocks are not too bad to begin with. I usually go with 13 PSI for regular driving (not towing) and it does a great job of preventing the rear suspension from bottoming out over large bumps.
