Catalytic converter replacement

Postby oreogaborio » Tue Jan 07, 2014 5:20 am

Has anyone here done this replacement themsleves?
Is there anything more to it than just getting in there, unbolting them and scraping up some knuckles? Or does it require a lot of extra part moving to get to them?

Just found these and may have to do it myself to save some cash. Hopefully they won't fail in a year, proving them to be a false economy.

Right, right... I'm just wondering if anyone's tackled the job before and knows if it's gonna be a PITA to swap em out or not...

Me too... but at 156k miles on my truck, so long as these buy me another 2-4 years I'm fine w/ that.

BP blaster and/or a torch will be your friend, especially if you live in the rust belt. Let us know what you think of the replacement cats.

Okay... Next question is... what are the best quality OE replacement brands out there? I see Eastern Cat, EvanFisher, Magnaflow, Bosal, PaceSetter, Walker.... but not sure what names out there are producting quality parts.

Any knowledgable recommendations?

Bosal and Walker are both pretty good brands; of the two, I prefer Bosal.
