Towing a manual tranmission

Postby ColinK » Wed Jan 29, 2014 11:18 pm

I have a 2007 manual 2.5 diesel Pathfinder, the owners manual states it should only be towed using a flatbed, is this really the case or can it be towed at limited speed with all 4 wheels on the ground in neutral?

Weird, never heard that one.

RWD vehicles need to be towed on the front wheels. Keep in mind that the pathfinder front diff and driveshafts are always turning, so this recommendation may have something to do with that.

Putting your transmission in neutral is OK, but I would imagine there are still items such as pilot bearings and other items that will wear. Also, your transfer case may be an issue, but SMJ could probably answer that better.
