Oil Fill Amount

Postby Middle Man » Mon Oct 02, 2006 12:46 pm

So the owners manual says 5 3/8 quarts is the correct amount to fill with a new oil filter. Question is exactly how much of that 6th quart ends up going in at the oil change...3/8, 1/5, 3/4? Did the service tech "pocket" over half of my $5.79 a quart of Mobil 1?

The Toyota dealer always returns the partial quarts when they change my wife's Camry.

Unfortunatly, I wasn't able to stay at the dealership to oversee my oil change...

I always fill with about 5.5 quarts with a new filter. It comes out right everytime. If you are unsure, fill with 5 then start the engine and run it for a minute or two. Then check again. It should be about a half quart down.

Probably just me but I prefer to keep the oil level about halfway between the add and full marks. :)
