MPG display?

Postby cdcruizer05 » Wed Aug 06, 2008 6:06 pm

I was wondering what is the MPG display for, does that mean how many MPG's you are averaging? Mine said 19.0 MPG today when i was driving!

Yes. It's an average that is calculated continuously since the most recent reset.

It's your call whether to reset. Doing so does provide a more current calculation. That is useful if you're curious about MPG for a specific trip or time interval.

To reset, just select the MPG display, then press and hold the selector button for a couple of seconds until the the display clears to "_ _ _ _ ".

i reset usually before a trip and or after i fill up.

I drive south bend to Ohare, i go 70 MPH and get 21.2 going and coming home i get about 20.3--- i'm pretty sure its due to the terrain and of course the wind is helping a tad going west to east.

i towed a 6x12 uhaul fully loaded and went 65-70 and avged 14.5 mpg-- i was impressed.

my pathy is an 07 le with nav and i absolutely love it and wouldnt trade it for anything-- i do notice the rattles every now and then when im not listening to the music loud, but other than that , this vehicle is almost perfect--
love the forum , will be posting more in the future and will try and do a pic to

Well i did reset and was reading between 18.0-18.7 MPG's! Which isnt that bad considering i was driving around town!

It did drop to 17.7 one time!

Drive 50 miles or so before drawing any conclusions. Mine has registered a high of 31 mpg and a low of 5 mpg in the same 20-mile trip (a mix of freeway and city driving) immediately after a reset. After a few hundred miles like that, it reaches a consistent 15.6 mpg hauling just my 200 pound carcass, no cargo, tires at 35 psi (max for my Mich Cross Terrains), A/C blasting, and regular grade fuel.

OTOH, it does a consistent 20-21 mpg at 75-80 mph on long freeway-only trips. For a 4600+ lb truck, I'm very satisfied with that.

also remember that you have a we have a big , heavy vehicle--

some things i do to help MPG:

1. tires are cold at 34-35psi-- when warm they are 36-38 firmer ride though

2. when starting from a stop never go above 2000 rpm
3. coast whenever possible -- look ahead at light etc.

when i see a yellow /red light i coast-- the wife maintains speed-- it drives me nuts-- women are oblivious , and in fact ive only met 2 or three girls in my life that i trust driving me and dont get me sick doing the whole accel, decel thing--- hurl!

Also i got 21mpg with ac on the whole time and used the cruise control--- cruise control is awesome

i had the 02 pathy but the day after i paid her off after 50k miles , original tires and had a crack in the windshield and had the check engine light on after i got a fuel injector service done and then the codes were o2 senosrs and a left bank or seomthing-- i was like i hated to, but had to trade her up---- i went all out and love the independent rear suspension.

cheers
aj

Thanks guys great pointers to remember, ive been babying the truck so far, so as long as i drive cool calm and collective i should get good gas mileage.

I actually bought my Pathfinder in GA, which is about 330 miles from my house, when i left the dealership, i filled th truck up, and when we got home i still had a 1/4 tank of gas. And i barely even used cruise, i was doing 80-85 the whole way! Was that pretty good?

I think some folks addressed that issue here a few months ago. I converted to regular when premium passed $3.40 a gallon, and it does feel slightly less responsive. Personally, although I can't prove it, I seem to get about 1 mpg less on regular.
