Fluid Change - Types

Postby jhg120 » Wed Jan 28, 2015 8:39 am

Hey All,

2011 Pathfinder S 4x4 - 30,100 miles

I plan on doing the transfer case and front and rear diffs. Just did motor oil.

I can't find exact answers to what type of oil for each. Help me out please?

1. Transfer case oil
2. Front diff
3. Rear diff

Thanks all. Dealership wanted $430 to do all three, outrageous! !!!

as mentioned, the specs are all listed in the manual. I dont' recall off the time of my head.

You might as well do a drain/fill on the tranny at the same time. Takes about 4 quarts and the same type of fluid as the transfer case.

I wonder if there is any way to make our service manual more visible & easily accessed for those that don't even know it exists

i didn't mean to imply that you're stupid, if that's what you thought
i just meant that the manual is kind of "buried" and difficult to find
:)

It's all good. Took 2 mins to find it. Good to go now. Let's hope for easy work ahead.

Since I got you, where is the transmission dipstick on 2011. I was told on passenger side near fire wall with a 10mm bolt. It's no where to be found.

Thx

it's about 12" forward of the firewall, between the intake duct and the large engine compartment fuse box
the instructions for checking the level are on pg MA-22 in the service manual
the bolt is a 6mm bolt with a 10mm head (use a 10mm socket to remove it)

The dipstick tube runs up on the right side of the engine. The top of the dipstick is black rubber and bolts down to the dipstick tube with a single, 10mm head bolt.

I use 75W90 synthetic gear oil for the front and rear diffs and Valvoline Maxlife ATF in the transfer case (Nissan calls for Nissan Type "D" ATF or Dexron III for the tranfer case). They recommend you replace the aluminum crush washers on the diffs and transfer case.
