What grade of engine oil

Postby Gray » Mon Sep 22, 2008 10:21 pm

The PF owners manual states that;

"It is essential (for the owner) to choose the correct grade, quality and viscosity engine oil to ensure satisfactory engine life and performance."

The Nissan 'fuel economy' recomendation is 5W-30 but I was wondering if any chose an 'optimum engine longevity' grade.

I use Mobil 1 of the same recommended 5W-30 viscosity in my Maxima also, which turned over 147k today. I'm hoping for the Pathfinder to run just as strong with no oil consumption when it gets this age.

I can't help much with telling you what would yield longevity, but the internals of the engine are about the last of my worries in this car. The non-engine electricals and mechanicals are what have me worried.

I think that Mobil 1 0W-40 might be a good choice for both economy and engine protection so went that way, a couple of used oil analysis should tell a story.
