Before I came here, the "program" for D11's was basically to replace components until the track frame was beyond life. Upwards of 80k hours wasn't unheard of. The owners' philosophy didn't exactly take into account things like availability, efficiency, productivity.....Since I've been here we switched to a more formal program where we install CAT rebuilds for engine/trans/finals/etc around 15k hours. Then around 30k it goes in for a CAT Certified rebuild. One more round of rebuilds on the components at 45k and then retired around 60k hours. I would like to say that replacing them at 30k is more economical but with a high cost of capital it's difficult to really make the numbers work. Part of the problem recently is that big equipment right now is pretty much worthless even in decent operating condition. I've got stuff I can't give away for scrap.
