Well she is finaly about done. Does this color look good or bad for a 2006 with 130k miles? Looks pretty dark to me.

I have seen many engines apart and I don't think that looks bad at all. If you can put a finger on some of that dis colored aluminum and feel if it is slimey feeling or sticky? If not it's fine. I would recommend running Penzoil conventional yellow bottle for a short 3,000 mile oil change before switching to what ever oil you want to use. Penz yellow cleans better then most oils on the market and any sludge that is there should clean out after 3,000mi running it. Just a suggestion but it looks good anyway.

Some oils leave that varnish color on parts as long as there is no sludge in the corners it's fine. Like I said a good short oil change will make sure it's clean.

Thanks guys, I've been running Mobil 1 synthetic since 40k miles. I'm up to almost 130k now. I was planning on doing a 2k-3k oil change.

It looks exactly like every one of the four that I've pulled apart. I would have replaced the water pump while I was in there, though.

I didn't replace the water pump, but I did replace all chains, tensioners, and guides. I also had the fan clutch done. I'm hoping the water pump wont come back to bite me!

You can replace the water pump without removing the front cover, but it is so much easier while doing the chains. If you have 100,000+ miles on it, it's a no-brainer for me. They aren't that expensive.

Another update, with the new chain, and the fan clutch my engine is super quiet and for the first time I can hear my engine. So now I can hear what seems to be the timing chain, but a very faint sound. Now I can only hear this because I'm super anal about my car and the sounds it makes. Should I be able to hear the chain at all?

If you don't mind me asking, what did parts run you? Guy near me on Craigslist is selling all the components plus tools, including water pump for 300 cause he sold his X. Just figuring out if it's worth my time.

600$ for all chains, guides, tensioners, and a new fan clutch. No tools included, but all nissan parts.

The ring gear stopper, alone, is about $100.

I sometimes think I hear this noise, but other times can't.

Does it come and go?

It can in the early stages. As it gets really bad, there won't be any question!
