Odd ticking?

Postby Kestral » Thu Mar 09, 2017 6:11 am

So when cold my Pathy gives me a strange tick and it seems to be coming from the belt tensioner? It goes away when warm though? Is this a sign it is on its way out?

I just got my path 2 weeks ago and I noticed this same issue on cold mornings. I got paranoid this being my first path but as soon as it warms up it goes away so I was just assuming it was just something warming up. I heard a path I looked at that had the timing chain tensioner issue. You will definitely tell when that's going out.

Are you sure it's coming from the tensioner? Mine ticked on cold mornings and it was a cracked exhaust manifold. The ticking would stop when the metal warmed up enough to expand to close the cracks.

Man I hope not with only 54,000 miles but I suppose that's possible.

I had similar ticking sound, like crickets, so I took one loooong screwdriver, carefully put its tip on alternator, belt tensioner and other parts while listening on screwdriver's holder with my ear.
In my case it was alternator pulley, 200 bucks repair cost.
