Blink, them-thar tires seem like they would eat a bit... then again my ski-racks do a number on me too.
AMR your going to LOVE the air lifts even without a load they help tremendously. Seeing that you've done a fair amount of towing (gotten beamed at night, etc) you path must feel a little loose. The difference in steering feel is what really did it for me I keep mine between 15-17 without a load and it's all smiles.

yea, they definitely aren't helping the situation. Once i get it another 2" up in the air my profile will be that much more of a brick. Thats something else to consider, the tires alone give me over an inch more surface area for wind to hit.

Postby Burt » Fri Dec 15, 2006 2:31 pm

Took two bikes to the Keys for the winter.
Philly to mile marker 53 just above Marathon FL. Left at 8:00 pm on Thurday night. 21.5 hours of driving with a two hour cat nap in SC. 6 X 12 trailer with two Harleys 3k lbs total. Average speed was 66.5 to souther florida and 64.5 once I got down to maker 53. Average miles per gallon for the trip was 10.5.

Return trip. No trailer.
Average speed was 64.9 clipping along at 74mph for long streaches. Average mpg 19.5.
Side note. Average mpg from the Keys up to Miami (100 miles or so) was 23mpg at an average speed of 49mph.

I appears that my setup is all about the speed driven.

Reran the same CT trip this weekend. Until I got into hilly NY/CT I was at 15.5 WITH the trailer. This was right at 65mph for around 90ish miles. Trailer was empty but was an enclosed model stood taller than the path and was still 6 or 7 hundred pounds I guess atleast. Mileage dropped down to high twelves dealling with all the hills for the last 90 miles of my trip. Coming back down with around 1000lbs of cargo I pulled off mid-high 12's the entire trip. I was traveling a more modest 55 up in ct and 65 for the rest.

If I ditch the roof rack and putt along at 65ish I'm sure i'd be getting 18-19's easy.

I don't know if you think less cylinders means better mileage. It just saves a little on weight. Of course like Racerzx said, if you have a diesel, you might get better.

MPG

I guess it's not comparable to the US models, but my 2005 2.5 Dci gets about 22mpg around town and 28 on motorway.....

UK gallons are a bit more than US gallons right? Still damn good numbers, you get around town what I only get if cruising carefully at 65-70MPH on a long road trip.
