Strange Rattle

Postby Code Pathfinder » Fri May 17, 2019 5:15 pm

Alright so my 09 pathfinder has developed this very annoying rattle over the last year and a half and it’s driving me nuts.

It sounds like something metallic is hitting something under the drivers side towards the front of the vehicle. Possibly the exhaust manifold but not too sure.

The rattle only occurs after I come to a stop and the whole vehicle vibrates or I kick on my AC compressor.

I’ve crawled around under there but still can’t find the source of my sound.

Any thoughts?

Possibly an exhaust heat shield is rattling? Get a rubber or plastic mallet and hit on the exhaust in various places to see if you can duplicate the noise. Often, the clamps holding the shields to the pipes will rust and break away.

So i poked around under my pathfinder today to find the source of the noise and it ended up being a U bolt clamp that had rusted off the exhaust.

Rattle is gone. :D
