As for mileage, I was averaging around 14.2 MPG with normal driving. Normal drive for me is about 20 miles one way to work on roads that range in speed from 30 up to 50. The trip usually averages out to 40 MPH. I had been tracking mileage for about a year prior to installing the Airaid. Mileage in the winter months, roughly Nov thru Feb, my mileage dropped to 13.7 MPG

After installing the Airaid in April until now, my mileage jumped up to 15.4. This is about 5000 miles worth of driving.

Looking back at my records for the spring/summer months my fuel economy is up about 1 MPG.

Was it worth it, maybe. The throttle response has greatly improved which makes is nice for towing.

I have still not bought a CAI. I was deployed all summer. I'm looking to get a CAI now that I'm back. Any new feedback on the Volant or the Airaid? Still like them?

-The one I have is part # 128566
Volant PowerCore (Dry Filter)
Cold Air Intake 2004-2012 Nissan Titan, Armada, QX56 5.6 V8

This is the one in my post pictures, it has an wide oval part of intake pipe that goes into the air box. Dry davidson filter good up to 100,000 miles

-Another one is part # 12856

This one comes with oiled filter like K&N. the intake pipe will be all round.

V8 Volant Install Upd8

Postby forgottenzone » Thu Nov 22, 2012 9:13 pm

Updated my 1st page original post with mods i did to make it all fit in place.

Modifications I had to do. The bolt hole inside the filter box did not match to the hole on the pathy fender well. So either drill the bottom of the box plastic to match the pathy bolt hole or simply use sheetmetal self taping screws with washers and screw into the wheel well.
when you take off the OEM box, there is a bolt mount that is next to breaklines next to the fender wall. When you remove the oem box you will see the piece of metal sticking out wich has a nut welded to it where the oem box gets bolted to. It sticks out and it wont let you mount the box properly. What i did was, I used the grinder with metal cuting wheel and i cut it off. This will alow the box to sit nicely on the fender. Last thing you need to do is go to lowes or homedepot, and grab some 1 inch thick foam insulation tape. They sell them in the insulation isle for insulating windows, doors. there is going to be about inch inch and a half space between the fender intake hole opening and the air box opening. I used the foam tape, taped it all around the hole on the fender. Made 2 rows of tape one on top of the other to make it thicker. then mounted the box. this will give you a good air tight seal. Thats it."

Just bumping the thread to see if anyone has heard of a new bolt-on system for the V8 model that does not require modifications.

There are not many V8's out there, and like a hand full of us are interested in moding them, that there is no market for them.
I prefer the Volant for all my vehicles I had. Its true cold air intake.
but if you want drop in one. K&N seems to be the only one that makes the kit for 08-12 5.6 pathfinder, it has metal pipe and half open filter box. here is the info:

2008 through 2012 Nissan Pathfinder V8 Gains 10.76 HP with K&N Air Intake Kit:

Installed on 08 pathfinder:

The 2008 Nissan Pathfinder received its biggest update since 2005. For the first time, a V8 engine is available, along with a revised interior including a larger center stack display screen. K&N also saw the potential for improvement and built one of its Air Intake Systems (77-6016KS) for the 2008 5.6 liter V8 model.

K&N Engineering 77-6016KS air intake system for the 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 Nissan Pathfinder with a 5.6 liter V8 engine
Nissan Pathfinder owners can feel a power gain once this K&N air intake kit is installed. K&N tests on its in-house dynamometer show an impressive 10.76 horsepower at 5137 RPM on the 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 Nissan Pathfinder with 5.6 liter V8 engine. The 77-6016KS also increases under the hood appeal with its silver intake tube.

K&N air intakes are designed to reduce intake restriction and provide a smooth air path between the air filter and the motor. Less restriction means more power and torque when you need it.

OE emissions devices are reused on the 77-6016KS and K&N's design works with factory computer settings.

The 77-6016KS uses a chrome top universal air filter (RC-4381) with a powder coated aluminum heat shield in place of the vehicle's air box. The K&N air filter captures harmful particles, provides a large surface area and allows air to flow with little restriction. The heat shield isolates the K&N air filter from the engine compartment and allows it to receive a consistent flow of fresh outside air.

The washable and reusable K&N air filter can perform up to 100,000 miles before service is required. Installation can be performed in 90 minutes of less. The 77-6016KS is also backed by K&N’s famous Million Mile Limited Warranty.

Now that you've had the intake on for a while now, would you have done it again? Why or why not?

Oops I guess this was a quesrion for me.
I love my volant system. I had Volant on last 3 vehicles I had. And will do it again and again. For fuel economy i cant tell you. I am sure if i was going after economy and took some weight off my foot it will be better then oem intake. But thats not why i buy my cars.
IT will deffenetly and finaly shine as soon as i am done with tuning it with my Uprev Then with the dyno Uprev. Now that I have finally fully opened the engine with the Long Tube Headers.
Vilant all the way. Its no brainer. Its intake that insulates hot engine air from intake air. Its larger then oem. It has a 100000 miles dry filter. Put it on and forget about it.
